In 2nd or 3rd grade, my teacher had us do a newspaper project. We were each given newspaper templates that we filled out. I absolutely loved the project and that year decided that I wanted to be a writer.
I was always reading and I was pretty fast too. We had a program at school that could gauge how fast you read. I think my top speed was close to 2000 words a minute. I used to joke that I didn’t read books, I devoured them.
In January of 2003, while living in Sunyani, Ghana, West Africa, I starting working on the first draft of the Sentinels of Mysera. Over the last 12 years, I’ve written rough drafts for a dozen different books. Revising, however, has been a little more difficult. I have continued to write and continued to grow. I love what I do.
When I’m not writing or reading, I’m geeking out with my husband and taking care of my three daughters, a preschooler and infant twins.
